It's very strong and sturdy. Many low price similiar items on the market are made of soft steels and the boss can be dented easilyThe handle of the Scutum is metal, secured by a thick steel bandThe umbo (boss) is made if 16G steel. All steel and iron parts can oxidize so oiling and regular cleaning should be done to prevent rusting.
